Meet Dr. LaTasha Jarrett Obstetrician & Gynecologist
LaTasha Jarrett, M.D., practices general obstetrical and gynecological care at UTSouthwestern’s Clinical Center in the Park Cities. She chose the Ob/Gyn field because she enjoys being an advocate for, and providing health care to, women. Dr. Jarrett is a champion of preventive care because she has personally seen how a lack of it can be detrimental to health.
You want people to have a better quality of life, and as a physician, I have the knowledge to help my patients achieve that, but I also let them guide us toward that goal.”
“My dad and other family members died from cancer, and part of the reason was because no one was looking until it was too late. So I like to spend a lot of time on prevention,” she says.
She believes the promotion of preventive care begins with women, who typically are the health care leaders of their families.
“The woman is usually the one who determines where and when her family should see a doctor,” she notes.
Time and again, she sees women who are empowered with the knowledge about their own health care and well-being encourage their family members to seek preventive medical care, as well. Dr. Jarrett wants to foster this cycle as much as possible by taking the time to listen to her patients, run diagnostic tests, and discuss personal medical and family histories to anticipate and possibly avoid conditions that may arise.
Another area of interest to Dr. Jarrett is counseling teenage girls because of the immense possibility she has of making a difference. She says most teenagers don’t have reliable sources for accurate information, and “it’s just the blind leading the blind.” Therefore, she enjoys talking with them about safe-sex practices, contraception options, and similar topics.
Dr. Jarrett chose UT Southwestern Medical Center because of the opportunity to work with individuals who are dedicated to improving the health of women. At UTSW, she has the opportunity to practice amid the best minds in medicine, offer her patients a state-of-the-art facility, and provide them with access to a variety of subspecialties.
