Meet Dr. Mazin Al Tamimi
Mazin Al Tamimi, M.D., is one of the few neurosurgeons trained in both pain management and spine surgery. As a result, he offers unique expertise in providing a comprehensive range of leading-edge options to evaluate and treat back and neck pain. His treatments include steroid injections, minimally invasive surgery, and neuromodulation.
Dr. Al Tamimi specializes in treating pain from any point in a patient’s continuum of care, focusing on determining the underlying causes of a condition and then providing the appropriate solutions to resolve them. This can mean fewer trips to multiple doctors and a more direct approach to faster relief, whether someone has mild, moderate, sudden, or debiliatating neck or back pain.
Dr. Al Tamimi is skilled in the most advanced techniques. Endoscopic spine surgery, for example, is an innovative approach to treating back pain and sciatica caused by disc herniations, spinal arthritis, and stenosis.
He performs this surgery by passing instruments through an endoscope, a thin fiber-optic video camera, to remove disc material or bone spurs. The endoscope is inserted into the body through a small “keyhole” incision that leaves only a tiny scar and minimal scar tissue. For eligible patients, the procedure can be performed as outpatient surgery, making the return to regular activities much faster than with traditional surgery.
Dr. Al Tamimi also offers neuromodulation for the treatment of spinal cord and peripheral nerve pain. Neuromodulation involves electrical stimulation to a specific area to interrupt pain signals to the brain.
“This treatment can be life-changing for patients experiencing pain,” Dr. Al Tamimi says. “When it works, they no longer have to rely on medications that may have severe side effects, and they get relief from their pain.”
Dr. Al Tamimi enjoys discussing with his patients the various options he can offer.
“I listen to my patients, thoroughly examine them, and discuss the pros and cons to different types of treatment. Communication is key,” he says.
