  • Biography

    Vivek Beechar M.D., M.Sc., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a Member of its Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine. His clinical interests include transplant infectious diseases and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection.

    Originally from South Africa, Dr. Beechar holds a bachelor's degree in neurobiology from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern. He then received advanced training in infectious diseases and transplant infectious diseases through a fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in infectious diseases and internal medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern Faculty in 2024.

    Dr. Beechar's research interests include the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) in solid organ transplant recipients. His investigations have resulted in 10 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, he has presented his findings at scientific conferences throughout the United States.

    Dr. Beechar is active in several professional societies, including the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and the American Society of Transplantation (AST).

    In 2022, Dr. Beechar was honored as one of Emory University School of Medicine's Most Outstanding Fellows.

    When not at work, Dr. Beechar enjoys keeping fit, traveling to new destinations, and supporting the Arsenal Football Club.
