Biography

Dr. Royce Laycock received his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas in 1954, then completed his internship at William Beaumont Army Hospital. He served as chief of physical standards and assistant chief of professional services at the Fifth Army headquarters in Chicago from 1955 to 1957. He returned to Dallas for his surgical residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital from 1957 to 1961. Dr. Laycock was in private practice in Pampa, Texas for sixteen years.

He was appointed associate professor of surgery at UT Southwestern in 1977 and full professor in 1984. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 1984-1989 and 1990-2000, he then served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 1989-1990. He was Chairman of the Division of General Surgery from 1994-1997 and interim Chairman of GI/Endocrine Surgery from 1996-1998. He is now Professor Emeritus in the Department of Surgery.
