Venkatesh Aiyagari, MBBS, DM (Neurology), is Professor of the Departments of Neurological Surgery and Neurology and Director of the Division of Neurocritical Care at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in the critical care management of patients with neurological and neurosurgical disorders.

Dr. Aiyagari earned his medical degree at Calcutta Medical College, West Bengal, India, and the degree of Doctor of Medicine (D.M.) in Neurology at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He completed a residency in Neurology at New York University and then received advanced training through a fellowship in Neurological Critical Care at Washington University, St. Louis.

Dr. Aiyagari is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialities of Neurology and Vascular Neurology and is certified by the United Council of Neurological Specialties in the speciality of Neurocritical Care.

Dr. Aiyagari joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2012 and has previously held faculty appointments at Washington University in St. Louis and at University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Aiyagari's research interests include pupillometry, acute blood pressure management in neurological illnesses and disorders of sodium in neurologically critically ill patients. He has authored several peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and has written invited editorials for JAMA Neurology. He serves on the editorial board of Neurocritical Care. He has also edited a monograph on Hypertension and Stroke, currently in its second edition.
