Kurt C. Kleinschmidt, M.D., FACMT, FASAM is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He was the Division Chief for Medical Toxicology from 2004 until 2020. He was also the Toxicology Fellowship Program Director from 2004-2018. He became the Medical Director of the Perinatal Intervention Program at Parkland Health and Hospital System in 2016. As such, he works with Maternal Fetal Medicine in optimizing the care of pregnant women who have substance use disorders. He is also the Service Chief at Parkland for the Integrated Family Planning Opioid Program; a program that optimizes the care of women in-between pregnancies. His areas of interest include drugs of abuse, addiction and withdrawal issues, and snake envenomations. He graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1986, completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in 1990, and finished a clinical fellowship in Toxicology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1999. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicology, and Addiction Medicine.
