Biography

Una Makris, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Rheumatic Diseases.

Originally from Los Angeles, Dr. Makris holds a bachelor's degree in microbiology from the University of California-San Diego. She earned her medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She then completed internal medicine residency training at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. She then completed advanced training through a fellowship in rheumatology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. She was a postdoctoral research fellow in clinical epidemiology and aging research at Yale University School of Medicine, and later completed a master's in clinical sciences with distinction at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Rheumatology, Dr. Makris joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011 as an Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018. She is currently a rheumatologist at the North Texas VA Health Care System in Dallas.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Makris is a Writing Accountability Group Leader and a mentor to rheumatology residents, fellows, and faculty. She is also a member of the diversity equity and inclusion committee for rheumatology and a Wellness Champion for the Department of Internal Medicine.

Personal Note

Outside of medicine, Dr. Makris enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, enjoying the outdoors, and traveling to visit extended family in California, Greece, and Serbia.
