Meet Dr. John Yordy
Assistant Professor John Yordy, M.D., Ph.D., focuses on the treatment of head and neck cancer in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
A graduate of the medical scientist training program at the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Yordy completed his radiation oncology training at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research has been published in multiple scientific journals, and he has served as a manuscript reviewer for Head and Neck.
Upon joining UT Southwestern’s Department of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Yordy established a laboratory to research promising new cancer drugs. Using high volume screening techniques and protein assays, he hopes to find compounds that may combine well with radiation to make that treatment more effective and reduce side effects.
“The next great advances in cancer treatment are going to be in combination therapy,” Dr. Yordy says. “We are fortunate that UT Southwestern supports integrating biological research with clinical care and provides the opportunity for physicians to pursue science. There’s no guarantee that we are going to find the next cure here, but at least we have a fighting chance.”
