Meet Dr. Neha Patel
Gastroenterologist in Dallas

For the many people who suffer from them, discussing gastrointestinal (GI) problems and seeking help can be difficult. Neha Patel, M.D., strives to put her patients at ease.

“The mind-body connection affects our health and quality of life in nearly all scenarios,” she says. “Every patient is a person – not just a body – and it’s very important to me that my patients feel comfortable and know that they can speak freely about their concerns and that I will listen to them.”

A general gastroenterologist – a physician who specializes in digestive and liver conditions – at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Patel expertly evaluates and treats men and women with a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders.

These include constipation, fecal incontinence, and other functional bowel disorders; pelvic floor dysfunction that impacts the GI system, including pelvic floor dyssynergia; inflammatory bowel disease; abdominal pain; GI bleeding; and irritable bowel syndrome.

Dr. Patel also sees patients who suffer from conditions that include Crohn's disease, colitis, celiac disease, and gastroduodenal diseases such as ulcers.

She has special expertise in women’s gastrointestinal health, as well, and treats the GI conditions that women can develop as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.

Dr. Patel offers a number of minimally invasive diagnostic/advanced endoscopy procedures, including motility testing, upper and lower endoscopy, and small-bowel capsule endoscopy. She also performs colonoscopies as part of colon cancer screening.

She emphasizes comprehensive, patient-centered care in her practice.

“UT Southwestern’s GI program offers a truly collaborative approach to patient care, which is unique,” Dr. Patel says. “Our team-based approach means we work with specialists that can include colorectal surgeons, gynecologists, urogynecologists, physical therapists, and nutritionists.”
