  • Biography

    Robert C. Eberhart, PhD, received an AB in 1958 in applied physics from Harvard College. He received his PhD in 1965 in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a staff scientist at the Institute for Medical Sciences, San Francisco, from 1964-1975. He became an associate professor at The University of Texas at Austin in 1975.

    Dr. Eberhart joined the faculty of UT Southwestern as an associate professor in 1976 and became a full professor of engineering in surgery in 1986. He served as Chairman of the Joint UT Southwestern-UT Arlington Graduate Biomedical Engineering Program from 1983 to 2000.

    • Functional imaging of circulatory assist devices (cell adhesion to pump-oxygenators)
    • Hypothermia in surgery and critical care
    • Laparoscopic instrumentation (magnetically anchored devices, virtual reality/hepatic training)
