  • Biography

Jeffrey McKinney is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine Medical Scientist Training Program.  He went on to complete his internship, residency and fellowship at Yale University in Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Disease, and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology.  Prior to his medical education and training, he was also named a Rhodes Scholar.

Dr. McKinney’s clinical interests include pediatric inpatient medicine and pediatric infectious disease.

He is presently a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease, as well as the Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.  He is also the Director of Medical Education for Children’s Health System in Dallas, Texas.

In his role as Vice Chair of Education, he has focused on the recruitment of nationally - and now internationally - competitive house officer candidates with diverse interests.  The Pediatrics Training Program currently includes more than 100 pediatrics residents, more than 100 pediatric subspecialty fellows, and more than 200 visiting resident rotators.  His overarching programmatic goals are to foster leadership development, physician activism, and critical thinking skills among physicians in training, and to maximize their long term professional impact.

In 2018, Dr. McKinney received UT Southwestern’s Mentoring Award.
