Meet Dr. Debra Richardson
Gynecologic Oncology Surgeon

Debra Richardson, M.D., specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with gynecologic cancers. Her absolute mission: helping women. She applies the total spectrum of options – from the latest surgical techniques to advanced drug therapies – to provide the best possible solutions for women with ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and other types of cancers affecting the reproductive system.

More options exist today to treat gynecologic cancers using minimally invasive procedures. In addition, we are very involved in clinical trials, which are very important treatment options for our patients. We will not stop until we improve the cure rates of gynecologic cancers.”

An important part of her work is making women aware of the signs and symptoms of gynecologic cancers and the need to have screening tests for the disease. Dr. Richardson serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. She has appeared in the media, including "The Dr. Oz Show" in 2011, to increase awareness of gynecologic cancers. Dr. Richardson emphasizes that about 90 percent of women with early-stage ovarian cancer, along with other types of gynecological cancer, can be treated successfully.

Robotic and minimally invasive procedures are among Dr. Richardson’s areas of expertise. For some patients, she is able to remove cancerous tissue using laparoscopic procedures. Typically, this means shorter hospital stays and reduced recovery times. Dr. Richardson is trained to use the latest technology to remove gynecologic cancers.

Long before entering medical school, Dr. Richardson had a family history in health care. Her great-great-grandmother, Emma Richardson, M.D., was the third female physician in southern New Jersey. Dr. Richardson’s mother is a nurse. As a child, Dr. Richardson witnessed her mother providing lifesaving care to someone with a medical emergency during a church service, an event that cemented her commitment to helping people through medicine.

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as gynecologic oncology, Dr. Richardson offers highly personalized care for patients based on the latest medical and surgical innovations.
