Biography Alexis Barina, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of General Internal Medicine. Specializes in palliative care, communication in the intensive care unit, and patient and family communication regarding heated high-flow nasal cannula. Originally from San Angelo, Texas, Dr. Barina holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. She earned her medical degree and completed all medical training UT Southwestern Medical Center, including internal medicine residency and fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Dr. Barina joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017. Dr. Barina is involved in several committees, including the Ethics Committee, the End-of-Life workgroup, the Palliative Care workgroup, and the Palliative Care Medical Education workgroup. She also supervises palliative medicine fellows and oversees residents and medical students during their palliative care rotations. Dr. Barina is active in multiple professional societies, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American College of Physicians.
