Meet Dr. Prapti Patel
Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist in Dallas
The path to health for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and myelodysplasia can be complex. Bone marrow transplant specialist Prapti Patel, M.D., emphasizes a close working relationship with her patients to make the experience easier.
“The treatments for these diseases can be difficult for patients – they require multiple visits and patients may experience side effects, ” Dr. Patel says. “But working together, we can navigate through the experience and improve their quality of life.”
Care for these complicated diseases requires a team approach, and UT Southwestern Medical Center excels at providing coordinated care among several experts focused on different areas.
As part of UT Southwestern's Bone Marrow Transplant and Hematologic Malignancies Program in Dallas, Dr. Patel offers expertise that comes from focusing solely on malignant hematologies such as leukemia.
The program, which has received acclaim for excellent clinical results, with outcomes superior to national norms in several areas, is a recognized leader in laboratory and clinical research.
“Our team approach to the treatment of these complex diseases helps give patients a second chance at life," she says.
Dr. Patel leads UT Southwestern's Sickle Cell Transplant Program, which began in July 2013. UT Southwestern is one of just a few academic medical centers offering this treatment option. Stem cell transplants for sickle cell patients can help end a lifetime of pain and hospitalizations.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Patel researches various malignant hematology areas, including new drugs for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
