  • Biography

Teppei Fujikawa, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and a member of the Hypothalamic Research Center.

Originally from Osaka, Japan, Dr. Fujikawa earned his postdoctorate degree in physiology and nutrition at Kyoto University. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship with He completed the postdoctoral training with Drs. Roberto Coppari (Geneva University) and Joel K. Elmquist at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Fujikawa joined the UT Southwestern faculty as an Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine in 2014. After working as an Assistant Professor of Physiology at UT Health San Antonio, Dr. Fujikawa returned to UT Southwestern as an Assistant Professor in 2021.

Dr. Fujikawa has been investigating the neuronal mechanism underlying the central regulation of metabolism. In particular, his focus is on how exercise and physical activity can modulate hypothalamic functions and the beneficial effects of exercise.
